Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy VAMPIRE FACIAL

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy for the skin and face can also be known as the ‘Vampire Facelift’ or ‘Vampire Facial’, due to the involvement of using your own specialized blood cells. This popular treatment works on the basis that the body’s own natural healing mechanisms can be used cosmetically to combat the ageing process of our skin.

PRP uses its unique repair processes that utilize protein growth factors to repair and rejuvenate skin.

PRP treatment involves extracting platelets from a small sample of your own blood in order to inject a further high concentrated value into damaged skin areas or scarring. This is done via the use of a centrifuge to spin down the blood which separates the red and white blood cells, providing – pure platelet-rich plasma (P-PRP).

Our blood platelets contain a high content of “growth factors” which are proteins that aid healing and repair of injured tissue or damaged skin. Upon re-injection, these platelets then release their growth factors which trigger surrounding cells to the area – stimulating repair, increasing volume and rejuvenating the skin via the stimulation of new collagen.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy Information

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment is a revolutionary relatively new treatment which works to create a radiant skin appearance. Platelet Rich Plasma treatment has been used for a number of years in surgical medicine and sports medicine, to treat muscle and ligament injuries, joint problems, skin issues, and hair loss.

How does Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy work?

PRP treatment involves harvesting platelets from our own blood in order to use them to treat skin problems and hair loss, giving it the nicknames Vampire Facial.

About 10-30ml of blood is taken and put into a centrifuge, where the blood cells are separated  The platelet-rich plasma is the component of the blood that is known for being highly effective in treating our skin among many other things.

The platelet-rich plasma once injected sends out signals to other cells in the body, telling them to migrate to the injection site. One of these cells is known as a fibroblast, which creates collagen. Collagen is what gives our skin its youthful appearance. As we go through the ageing process, collagen becomes reduced, causing reductions in elasticity, which is responsible for skin wrinkles and fine lines. PRP therapy is an anti ageing treatment used to stimulate collagen production can counteract this. Adipocyte cells are also stimulated, which convert into fat cells, which are important in the face for contouring the face.

PRP therapy can be used on the face, particularly around the eyes, mouth and nose, the backs of the hands, and all over the body, more commonly the décolletage and even the knees to give skin a more youthful and radiant appearance.

What areas can PRP treat?

Unlike fillers and botox treatments, PRP therapy is often used to improve the appearance of the skin itself; improving skin dehydrated and undamaged skin. It can also be used all over the body. Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy is used to treat many cosmetic problems, from fine lines and wrinkles or, to crow’s feet around the eyes and mild skin sagging.

What it the PRP process?

Initially, we will go through an assessment as a medical history evaluation to make sure you are a good candidate for PRP treatment. Before your procedure, we will apply a local anaesthetic to the treatment area to minimise any pain or discomfort. Then we will draw 10-30ml of blood from your arm. The blood will then be spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelet plasma from the red blood cells using a special tube.

The PRP is then injected into the skin in the locations multiple times in multiple locations using a PRP injection Gun in order to give an overall improvement to the area.

Optionally you can use Micro-needling treatment and Red LED phototherapy for further boosting effect.

Following there will be some redness, but swelling and bruising is very rare. The area will then be covered with a natural Arnica Gel to reduce any bruising if required.

You will then be free to leave and go about your daily business as normal afterwards. The whole procedure usually takes about 60 minutes including the processing time. It may take a few weeks for the results of the PRP therapy to become visible, but with two to three top-up treatments, you can expect the results of PRP therapy to last for up to one and a half years.

PRP recovery time

There is no recovery time or downtime from Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy, it is a simple in and out process.

PRP risks or side effects
